Hair is something women universally complain about. ‘If only it were a different colour/had curls/was straight/ thicker/or shiny’. We have all had the experience of the disaster cut, the one that made you look like you were wearing somebody’s hair.

You wondered how you could possible live with it. That whimsical ’new look’ takes months to grow back into something more recognizable, more comforting, more you.

Choosing a good hairstyle requires two things. First you need to know what will suit you: your face, your lifestyle, and most importantly the type of hair you have. Secondly, you need the help of a talented yet sympathetic stylist.

FACE SHAPE

If yours is a simple oval shape there’ll be lots of possibilities within the limits of the texture of your hair. For women with other shaped faces-squire, oblong, round, etc. You are advised not to repeat the shape of your face but to create complementary width, softness or length where you need it.

For example, oblong faces will be emphasized and appear even longer with straight styles that end at the shoulder or below. It’s better to ‘break-up’ the extra length of these faces with angular or soft styles that create width at the sides and back. Square faces, by contrast, have more width and less length than oblong faces.

So opt for the minimum on the sides with layers on top to create height and some length showing at the back to create length. In selecting a style to complement your face, you will achieve a more balanced and interesting look. A lovely round face that has a full, round hair-style just looks fat not interesting. You make the most of your face by choosing a hairstyle that shows off its own uniqueness.

LIFESTYLE

If you are unlikely to spend a half hour every day working with your hair it’s fruitless to choose styles that requires a lot of care and crimping, longer styles can be time-consuming if left free, but if attractively plaited, pulled-back or up can be as easy to care for as some of the shorter styles. Before choosing any new look be sure to discuss with your hairdresser how much time you want to spend daily in caring for your hairstyle.

TEXTURE

How thick or thin your hair is and how much body it has (on its own without mousses or gels) will affect your choice of styles. While you might hanker after the luscious locks of particular magazine models or your best friend, they may have a different type of hair of yours, and you would be smarter to learn more about making the most of your own hair, and how to look you best.

The most common cause of grey hair is the age. But a person can go grey because of several other reasons too. Prolonged illness, sudden and severe shock or intense worry are some of the causes. When you first see a couple of grey hair on your head, you usually have an irresistible urge to pull them off. This should never be done.

Every time you pull out a grey hair, you sow the seeds for some more.

In fact the root at the base of the hair follicle secrets an infectious serum which oozes out of the sebaceous glands through the oil sac. The serum covers a tiny area of healthy hair surrounding the grey hair, and whichever hairs are affected they turn grey.

If you feel you must get rid of the grey hair, cut close to the root, with a pair of small scissors.

If the grey hair comes off during brushing, there is no fear of further infection or spreading. It shows that the hair was so weak that it could not hold onto scalp. There are some home remedies for treatment of premature graying and these are: 1- Take giloya (tinospora cordiofolia and gokhroo) in equal parts and mix with honey.

One teaspoonful should be taken thrice a day. 2- Ground in powder two parts bhringaraja, one part black sesame seeds and one part amla. Take one teaspoonful of powder with milk and sugar twice daily for 4 to 6 weeks. 3- Ground into paste equal quantity of old mandur, amla and japa (hibiscus rosa-sinensis) flowers.

The paste should be applied on the head. Leave it on, when it has dried, the hair should be washed with water, in which amla has been soaked overnight. 4- Another paste recommended for the pre-mature graying of hair is to grind 2 parts amla, 2 parts harad and 3 parts old mandur into fine powder.

A spoonful of powder should be wetted with water. The paste may be kept in an iron vessel overnight and applied to the hair next morning. When the paste is dry, oil should be applied to the hair and then the paste should be washed thoroughly with cold water.5- Rinse hair with rosemary, sage or walnut leaves and shell. 6- Rinse hair with saffron, ginger root, marigold or red oak bark. Use red henna to dye the hair.

All hair are not one or same types. There are different types which each of us belongs. Such as Dry hair, Oily hair, Normal hair, mixed condition, etc. DRY HAIR-Dry hair seems dull, have problem of split ends, lack of shine, and cannot keep a set for long period. Dry hair is usually symptomatic of dehydration (loss of water content at cellular level), often caused by a lack of sebum on the hair.

The other reason is of naturally dryness is because of sebaceous glands which are not producing enough oil or because the hair has been made dry through misuse. For this reason you should take step to protect it from any chemical or mechanical means of stress, such as brushing, pulling or harsh styling.

Massage with hot oil using olive oil, almond oil or coconut oil. Keep a cup of oil in hot water to make it hot, and then use it into the hair and scalp. If one egg and two table spoons yogurt is added in oil that would be much better. Cover the head with warm towel or plastic bag increase moisture absorption and leave for at least 30 minutes to one hour. Then wash with mild shampoo about once a week and always use conditioner to reduce tangles. Use a good cream conditioner and rinse thoroughly. Hair dryer should be used with care. While hair is still slightly damp stop drying. This will stop much dryness that you may already have.

Most dry hair is inflicted not inherited and coloring, perming, straightening and bleaching are the major reasons of dryness. Any one with really dry hair should, therefore, avoid processing and wait for the condition to improve, instead go for highlights or one of the milder, temporary colors that do not disturb the hair beyond cuticle level.

Oily hair-Over active sebaceous glands in the scalp produce excess sebum, which coats the hair, causing it to glisten with oiliness and to become lank and greasy in appearance. It seems limp again with a few days of washing. The oil attracts grime and hair will need washing frequently to look attractive .Keep scrupulously clean and wash daily with a mild shampoo. This will not step up sebaceous gland activity, but harsh acting shampoos will.

Treat hair in between shampoos to cologne rub if it gets too oily. Use cologne on cotton wool and rub along partings in the hair to lift off grease at the roots before it has a chance to spread. Use lower heat settings on blow dryers. Hot air currents can active the sweat glands and step up sebum production. Mild coloring can improve the appearance of oily or limp hair but bleaching may not suit it.

Normal hair-Normal hair is not much oily or dry and will need washing about every five days to a week .Those people who look after their hair wisely they get normal hair. Make a paste from hinnah and water and apply on hair before shampoo. Wash it with preferred shampoo and a cream-rinse conditioner to manage. Wet hair loses up to 20 percent of its natural resilience. So treat it as gently as possibly after washing wrap hair loosely in a clean towel and do not vigorously .The best thing you can do is to leave it to dry naturally. To use dryer, do not start drying until the hair is three-quarters dry.

MIXED TYPE-In this type we get hair not in too fine condition or too coarse and usually has enough body to take a wide variety of different styles. In mixed condition hair, the scalp and hair at the roots are oily, while the ends are dry, frizzy and prone to breakage and splitting .Give separate attention to scalp and hair. Scalp needs astringent treatment before shampoo. Use mild shampoo only once and finish with conditioner applied only to the ends of the hair. For blow drying lowest setting would be best.

Baldness and hair loss has been a problem for men and women. Hair transplant is a technique of hair restoration in which hairs are picked up from the back and the sides of the head and then transplanted in the bald area of the head.

The major causes of the hair loss are the aging effects, family history, trauma, change in hormones and unbalanced nutrients. The other causes of the baldness are the vitamins deficiencies, scalp, and excessive dandruff etc. Hair replacement surgery can enhance your appearance and your look.

Each hair grows one centimeter per month. About ninety percent of the hair at scalp growing at one time and the ten percent of the hair are in the resting phase. After two to three months the hair at the resting places begins to fall out and new hair grows at the same place.

It is normal to shed few hairs each day but some people may experience an excessive amount of hair shedding. Hormones problems, illness and the effect of the major surgery can cause the loss of hair excessively. Many women after giving birth to baby face hair loss problem and this is also related to the hormones imbalance.

Some medicines and infections also cause the hair loss. The hair loss due to medicines can improve when you stop taking certain medicine. Similarly fungal infection in children can cause the hair loss and this can be treated by using the antifungal medicine. Hair loss can also be occurred due to the diabetes or lupus. Before you decided to have hair transplant consult your surgeon.

You must have healthy growth of hairs at both the sides of the head and the back of the head, which will act as a donor area. There are different transplant and grafting technique are performed such as punch graft, micro graft, strip graft and mini graft. Sometimes two or more grafting techniques are used to achieve the best results.

Hair transplant technique is not recommended for the individuals who have very less hairs at the sides and back of the head. The candidates for the surgical treatment like mini-grafts should have dense hairs in the donor areas. Hair transplant surgery is a safe procedure if performed by the qualified and well experienced surgeon. An unnatural patchy look results after the treatment.

There are certain medical conditions that can create problems such as high blood pressure, blood-clotting, scars and hypersensitivity etc. so if you have any of these conditions then you should consult your doctor before undergo any surgical treatment.

Hair transplant surgery is usually performed in the physician’s office facility or in the surgery center as an outpatient. In very rare cases a hospital stay is required for few days. General anesthesia is used in the tissues expansion and flaps. Hair transplantation involves removing the small pieces of hair-bearing scalp grafts from the donor areas and relocating the hair-bearing scalp grafts to the bald area on the head. Normally different surgical sessions are required to get the satisfactory results.

The scalp is covered with gauze after the grafting session. After the incisions are healed you may need more follow-up procedures to get the more natural look.

Today women have a multitude of choices for treatments to enhance their own natural hair colour and why not? In those countries where regular sunshine is in short supply, many natural blondes can look rather muddy and lifeless unless they highlight their hair.

But any seasonal type can colour her hair provided she follows guidelines that will ensure best results. Should you go too far with a new hair color you can weaken the effect of your seasonal palette. I’m not saying don’t ever try something different just beware that you may need to adjust your seasonal colors if you do so.

Let’s consider the available techniques before looking at some guidelines for each seasons. The various options come down to a choice between temporary and permanent colour. If you haven’t coloured your hair before, it’s better to try out a new shade with a semi-permanent or shampoo rinse to see if you like it. A permanent tint or bleached highlighting is a serious commitment that will take months to grow out.

TEMPORARY COLOUR

You can begin to test various shades with coloured mousses or shampoo rinses. These only coat the surface of the hair and wash out with your next shampoo. Women with dark hair will find it difficult to judge the results as these treatments don’t show up as effectively as on light –haired women.

SEMI-PERMANENT COLOUR

You can experiment by selecting a colour off the shelf, but it is much better to seek the help of a colourist in a good salon. Don’t expect every hairdresser to advise you accurately on colour. A specialist is required to tell you what’s possible with your hair that is, how porous it is and how it is likely to take colour. A specialist will also be able to tell you which colours will complement your skin tone. Semi-permanent colour is only advised for red, auburn, brown or dark hair as it really isn’t effective as a lightening treatment. Try a semi-permanent colour if you are just starting to go grey as the natural fading won’t be as obvious as with an all-over permanent tint.

PERMANENT COLOUR TINTS

Here is the heavy-duty treatment of dyes mixed with hydrogen peroxide to permanently change the colour of your hair. You will begin to notice re-growth in four to six weeks and will then need the roots to be dyed to blend in. Bleaching is the permanent colouring treatment if you want to go blonde. The time required depends on your hair type but results are certain. Any permanent colouring affects the natural texture of your hair, making it both more porous and dry and susceptible to splitting. Be sure to treat your hair to a weekly waxing and use conditioner especially for colour treated hair.

HIGHLIGHTS AND LOW-LIGHTS

The half-way alternative to an all-over change of hair colour is to add ‘lights’. Highlights are best for blondes and can be done ad hoc in different areas to create the effect of a few weeks in the sunshine. Dark and mid-tone brown hair is effectively treated with low-lights which streak in a shade richer than your natural colour to create interest and a sense of movement. Re-touching is required about every four months
